Case XX Trapper Knives
Case XX Trapper pocket knives
The Trapper is the Case knife a lot of folks picture first: two full-length blades, a clip and a spey, on one sturdy frame that rides easy in a front pocket. Case builds the Trapper at 4⅛ inches closed on its 54 pattern, and the Mini Trapper at 3½ inches on the 07 pattern for a more compact carry. You'll find both here, plus Tiny Trappers, in jigged and smooth bone, BoneStag, G-10, Kirinite, wood, buffalo horn and more. Every listing shows the Case pattern number and the handle. Unless the listing says otherwise, knives ship new in the box. Questions? Call 606-375-9423 or email sales@prknives.com.

Blade options we stock: clip and spey on most; clip and Wharncliffe on some (like the 65329, 6.5254W SS); Damascus blades on others (like the 77460, 27230, 52420 and 15090).
Steels we stock: Tru-Sharp surgical stainless (SS), Chrome Vanadium (CV, like the 58410) and carbon steel (CS, like the 31950 and 31957).
Handles we stock: jigged and smooth bone (dark red, gray, chestnut, Tequila Sunrise, navy blue, peach seed, Crandall and gator jigs), Pocket Worn bone, 6.5 BoneStag, G-10, Kirinite, smooth synthetics, Corelon (mica pearl), curly oak, maple burl and blue sycamore wood, jigged buffalo horn, and genuine abalone.
Reading the number: the first digit is the handle material, the second is the number of blades, and the rest is the pattern. 6254 means jigged bone, two blades, pattern 54.
What's the difference between a Trapper and a Mini Trapper?
Both carry the same two blades, a clip and a spey, and both are slip joints. The Trapper is Case's 54 pattern, 4⅛ inches closed and about 4 ounces. The Mini Trapper is the 07 pattern, 3½ inches closed and about 2.7 ounces, so it's the pick if you want a more compact knife in the pocket. The pattern number on each listing tells you which one you're looking at: 54 for a Trapper, 07 for a Mini Trapper.
Clip blade or spey blade: which one does what?
Case describes the clip as the multi-purpose blade, the one most people reach for on detail work. The spey is the all-purpose utility blade for longer cuts. A Trapper gives you both, full length. A few of ours, like the 65329 6.5 BoneStag Trapper, swap the spey for a Wharncliffe, a straight-edge blade with a dropped point.
Which handle should I pick?
Go with what you'll enjoy carrying. Jigged bone is the classic Case look, and since it's natural bone, no two handles match exactly. G-10 and Kirinite are tough synthetics if you want something low-fuss. Pocket Worn is Case's factory handle finish for a smooth, broken-in look; it isn't wear, and those knives are new. Mica pearl (Corelon) has a pearly shine but isn't real pearl. Our 12000 Trapper is the one in genuine abalone.
Which blade steel should I choose?
Most Case Trappers use Tru-Sharp surgical stainless, which Case says holds an edge well and resists corrosion. If you want a traditional non-stainless blade, look for CV (Chrome Vanadium) or CS (carbon steel) after the pattern number, like the 58410 Gray Bone Trapper CV. For a patterned blade, see the Damascus Trappers.
How do I read the number on a Case Trapper?
Case stamps a pattern number on the tang. The first digit is the handle material, the second is the number of blades and the rest is the pattern. So 6254 means a jigged bone handle, two blades, pattern 54, which is the Trapper. For the whole system, read our guide: How to Read Case XX Pattern Numbers and Tang Stamps.

The Trapper takes its name from the work it was built for: setting traps and skinning what they caught. You get two blades that each run nearly the length of the frame, a clip for piercing and detail cuts and a long spey for skinning. The classic Case Trapper is pattern 6254, about 4⅛ inches closed. In that number, 6 means bone handles, 2 means two blades, and 54 is the Trapper pattern.
